December 7 was 4 days ago. I remember in high school: I had such a hard time remembering important dates. We all did. So much so that the teachers always just decided to teach us about the events rather than making us actually be able to recall the dates.

.....or Pearl Harbor.

In fact, I've become a bit of a WWII buff.
I have two stories that I find just amazing when I think about it.
#1 - My wife's grandfather was a successful "wildcatter" geologist and oilman. But, before that, he was a diver. After Pearl Harbor, they had him come to Hawaii and be a part of the crew that was responsible for diving into the wreckages to recover as many bodies as they could find.
Obviously, it was a horrible job to do but they did it. Somebody had to I suppose. But, it affected him. I never heard him talk about it while he was alive but my Meg says he never went back in the water like that again. That's pretty stout stuff right there.
#2 - I was honored enough back in the early days of being in practice to have a paratrooper that was dropped behind enemy lines at Normandy just prior to D-Day! He ended up getting shot through the jaw. He made me put my finger in the "divot" in his jaw bone. LOL. Anyway, after being wounded, he was put in the hospital in England where he escaped and made his way back to France to his unit to continue the fighting.
Can you imagine?
Then his jaw got infected and they had to put a drainage tube in it. They finally sent him back to the states and "retired" him. Wow...I was in awe of this guy. Just a phenomenal story and I was extremely honored to have him in my office.
He's no longer alive but he left me with a with a story I'll never forget.
What's funny is, back then, I shared an office with a dentist. The girls warned me when they saw this man on my list that morning. They said, "Watch out. He's really grumpy. Just be ready." They had me a little worried. LOL.
I thought he was great and, when I was telling the dentist's girls his story after he left, it was clear that they hadn't realized what a genuine hero he was. You just never know...
So, on to brighter topics....
Here are a couple of pics of some happy kids! They got to go to IHOP, which they love. A trip to go eat breakfast somewhere on the weekend is always good for big smiles.

Meg decided to buy some gingerbread houses and have a "putting together party". She invited some friends and their kids and the building ensued complete with hot apple cider. It's definitely Christmas at our house!

I had to take a trip to Lubbock Saturday morning so, rather than go by myself, I made Jake come with me. Now, those that know me understand that I'm a bit of a music junkie and music encyclopedia. Music is a big part of my life. I made Jake leave the iPad and video games at home. No books. Just me!
I downloaded Buddy Holly's greatest hits and introduced Jake to the legend of Buddy Holly! He loved Buddy's music....of course. I told him all about Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens. The plane wreck. Bye, bye Miss American Pie.....the whole thing. Then we went to the Buddy Holly museum when we got down to Lubbock. He loved it and I had a great time hanging out with my kid. We never get to do those things so it was special.

Random Dog Pics

They step on her and she throws a fit but she loves them.

"Good Words" Drawing!

We're going to try something around here that we think is going to be a lot of fun. If it's a success, we'll do it a lot more and we'll do it in a bigger and better way as we go.
I have said many times, "Our business depends on our patients going out and telling everyone they know about us and how well we do what we do."
There are a lot of ways to spread the word in the days of the internet. For instance, we have noticed that some new patients choose us due to the fact that we have 3 positive reviews on a Google search rather than just 1 or zero reviews. We want to encourage "GOOD WORDS" from our patients whether it's by word-of-mouth, checking in at our office on Facebook, or leaving us a positive review out on the internet.
It can be truly priceless to a business like ours.
So, to get started, we thought we would offer a 2GB iPod Shuffle to the winner of December's drawing! If my calculations are correct, it should be able to hold around 230-250 songs depending on how big the song files are. We will hold the drawing at our Thank You Patients day cookout on December 28. I won't be able to announce the winner until Tuesday, January 8th due to a trip I will be taking with my family.
I think this will be fun for everyone that chooses to get themselves in the drawing. So, here are the rules and how to get into the drawing each month.
1. We will add one entry in the drawing for each time our patient "checks in" on Facebook or posts on Twitter about being here in our office. Just show one of the girls at the front desk your "check in" or your tweet and you have yourself an entry.
2. Any time you show us that you have taken the time to go to one of the sites provided below and left us an honest review, you will earn 3 entries in our monthly drawing.
3. Any time that you refer a friend or family member to our practice and they actually come in for their first appointment, you have 5 entries in our monthly drawing.
So there it is. Pretty simple
1. Check in or tweet = 1 entry
2. Review or testimonial online = 3 entries (See below for links)
3. Personal referral = 5 entries

Wouldn't it be fun if we were able to eventually give away a TV or iPad or something awesome like that? That's what I would like to work up to but everything has to start small and an iPod Shuffle is still pretty cool!
All of the following websites have areas where you can leave reviews for your favorite businesses. I have taken the time to narrow the links down to our exact page so that you don't have to go looking around the internet or several different sites for our office. It should be fast and easy if you choose to do it.
